The Future of Local Government- Panel debate
Panel debate and public discussion on local governments
Location: Brighton
After the Scottish referendum, with massive pressure building for real decentralisation within the rest of the UK given the further powers that are going to Scotland, the future of local government in the rest of Britain may be starting to look rosier - for the first time in a generation. The think tank Green House believes that this opportunity needs to be seized.
Green House Chair Rupert Read outlined at this meeting what the possibilities are for constitutional change including a revivification of local government. Jason Kitcat, Leader of Brighton Council, responded with his thoughts about what a restoration and expansion of local government finance would mean to the city. The meeting was chaired by Greenspeak’s Alison Plaumer.
