Progressive Politics: What is it, what is it for, and how do we get it?

The second half of 2016 and the first half of 2017 - Brexit, the election of Donald Trump, elections in the UK, France and Germany dominated by strong conservative and far-right parties - threatens to be a catastrophic period for 'progressive' politics. This means that those who believe in such a thing, and pin their hopes on it, need to get very clear about what ‘progressive’ means, what any progressive alliance could offer to a disaffected electorate, and how majorities could be built around it.
